SUP for Cancer 25th June 2017

I can't believe that the second SUP for Cancer race was almost 4 months ago and that I haven't shared it with you! Here is a short overview of the event and a little video to go along with it.
It was another fun event raising money for Cancer research and full of surprises. The forecast for this event was not due to be as glam as last years but that didn't put anyone off, because this event was even bigger than the last.
There was a slight change to how we were going to be starting and finishing this year, which got me slightly nervous because it was going to require us to cross the river on both occasions.

My start was not the best, I did my usual and was over the line so they had to wait for me to paddle backwards slightly before they set us off. Unfortunately this left me unprepared for the go, which meant I was battling through everyones wash. It got a bit hairy at times and I am surprised I managed to stay on my board! It was my own fault and lessons have been lear…

Day trip to Kotor, Montenegro

Second port of call was the breath taking Kotor, Montenegro
On last years cruise we made an unexpected stop in Kotor where I chose to do an excursion, which would take me up into the mountains (read about it here). This year I opted for the self guided tour of the old town instead. The distance from the ship to the town was mere meters away, or 5 palm trees if you're my mum, so not far to travel which is perfect. As I left the ship that morning to go on my early explore and I was greeted by several people wanted to sell me taxi journeys to see the surrounding areas, some were more persistent than others! I fought my way through, politely declining as I went, and soon made it to the city. The plan was to come back and go on the hop on, hop off bus tours to explore some of the towns further down the coast.

Last year at the end of the excursion we had a walking tour of the city. Unfortunately it was late afternoon by the time we had arrived, so it was jam packed and after a while I j…

Womens Adventure Expo 2017

On Saturday 7th October 2017 my alarm went off at 5am - yes you heard right 5am on a Saturday! I had to catch an early train to Bristol for the Womens Adventure Expo, which turned out to be the most uplifting and rewarding day I have had for a while.

My adventure started off in Southampton, where I dragged myself out of bed, showered to try and wake up and then into the car to drive to the train station. I had decided to leave early, so I could park the car at work and then walk to the coffee shop to get a good doze of caffeine...but to my shock the were shut! They didn't open until 7am and that was after my train departure, this now left we lots of time to kill before the train. I was about to start my day of good luck when the coffee shop within the train station opened. Perfect! I boarded the train and settled down to my Spotify play list which would help get me through the next hour and forty minutes.

I arrived at Bristol Temple Meads, just ahead of my niece who I dragged alon…

Day trip to Valletta, Malta

If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook then you will have seen that I have recently been cruising around the Med on board Cunard Queen Victoria, and if not then head over there to catch up.

My first port of call was the stunning Valletta, Malta.

The ship docked early morning, which allowed us to enjoy breakfast with views of Malta's Grand Harbour as the sun rose. It was just a 20 minute walk from the ship to the centre of Velletta but being at sea level there was a long way up to reach the same level as most of the city. Luckily since my last visit 4 years ago, they have installed a lift to take you up to the Botanic Gardens. This is ideal for someone with limited mobility, like my mother.

Once you are at the top of the lift you have more impressive views across the entrance of the Grand Harbour, and if your not scared of heights, unlike me, you can stand at the edge just as you come out of the lift and take in the views below. From here you are on the correct level for the res…

Womens Adventure Expo

So I was browsing through Facebook one evening, instead of packing for my holiday, and I came
across the Womens Adventure Expo. Normally when I come across events like this, they have either already passed or on a day that I can't do but....I was in luck this time!

I am super excited to go and become even more inspired to go on adventures. Having the chance to meet like minded people and get some tips off them is a great opportunity. Hopefully the day will give me some knowledge and good starting points on what I need to do to take the plunge and go on adventures, whether it is with others or on my own.

Now all I have to do is book my train and decide what I want to see...
